Description
Kamloops has a number of places that get that 'frozen in' kind of day during winter, particularly by the North Thompson River, where this was taken.
Kamloops is a city in south central British Columbia, at the confluence of the two branches of the Thompson River and near Kamloops Lake. It is the largest community in the Thompson-Nicola Regional District and the location of the regional district's offices. The surrounding region is more commonly referred to as the Thompson Country. It is ranked 37th on the list of the 100 largest metropolitan areas in Canada and represents the 44th largest census agglomeration nationwide, with 85,678 residents in 2011.
In the Northern Hemisphere, the December Solstice is the Winter Solstice and the shortest day of the year.
Although winter is the season of dormancy, darkness and cold, the December Solstice marks the "turning of the Sun" and the days slowly get longer. Celebrations of the lighter days to come and natures continuing cycle have been common thorughout cultures and history with feasts, festivals and holidays around the December Solstice.
