A quiet day ideal for spacious long hikes overviewing a spectacular landscape as a river runs through it. A bustling city of Kamloops behind, this confluence of rivers brings a variety of migratory and 'right at home' birds for fantastic bird watching and communing. I recently had an opportunity to 'hang with the swans' (Trumpeters) and had a very sweet connection with one in particular. The north may be cold, but the presence of community and sometimes strange communion tends to show up when it gets below 0 Centigrade!
At Kamloops, the combined Thompson River river flows 15 km from the confluence of the North and South Thompson Rivers before reaching Kamloops Lake, which is roughly 30 km in length, ending at the town of Savona. From there it flows in a meandering course westwards through a broad valley area. At Ashcroft, the Thompson Canyon begins and the river turns southwestward to its confluence with the Fraser.
