Artist's Description
Sage growing free and strong, smelling sweet and pungent on a warm day is a purifying experience.
S. verbenaca is a tall perennial herb with hairy stems and branches that erectly sprawl out. Its leaves are basal and toothed that vary from 3 to 10 cm (1.2 to 3.9 in) long. It has soft purple to violet flowers in mid summer. It is in flower from June to September, and the seeds ripen from July to October. The flowers are bisexual and are pollinated by bees. Some are also cleistogamous and pollinate themselves.
The plant is noted for attracting pollinators and wildlife.

I was born and raised on a cattle ranch in Wyoming near Cody at Heart Mountain. Sagebrush is very distinct and very aromatic as well as beautiful especially when it has rained and the flowers start to pop open. Your fine photograph is almost like a postcard from home! V/F
Kathy Bassett replied:
Thanks so much, Anne! I am so happy to hear some of your home story. I used to live in Medicine Bow and was a special ed teacher way back when for a few years, so I know what you mean!!
