I know this isn't recent, but with the recent horrific discoveries of the genocide of First Nations children (215 unmarked graves here in Kamloops) that were taken from their homes and placed into residential schools by the government and the Catholic church - nuns and priests - now today July 15th 2021 - are telling their stories. We all must awake to these horrifying stories and let the process of healing continue.Thank you to the buyer from Albuquerque NM! 8 x 4 print.
Celebrate the Secwepemc people’s heritage in a spectacular way, at the 39thAnnual Kamloopa Powwow . The Kamloopa Powwow is one of the largest celebrations of First Nations’ culture and heritage in Western Canada, and is a vibrant display of storytelling, song, and dance in traditional regalia. The Powwow represents many years of stories and events from previous years packed into three exciting days at the Secwepemc Powwow Grounds located 2 minutes from the city centre, alongside the South Thompson River in Kamloops. A pow wow (also powwow or pow-wow) is a social gathering held by many different Native American communities. A modern pow wow is a specific type of event for Native American people to meet and dance, sing, socialize, and honor their cultures. Pow wows may be private or public. There is generally a dancing competition, with many different types of traditional dances, music and regalia, often with significant prize money awarded. Pow wows vary in length from a one-day event, to major pow wows called for a special occasion which can be up to one week long.
